Australia: Great place for bikinis

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Ever since I went Down Under in the Spring of 2000 the country has had a special place in my affections. Not sure why since it rained over half the time during the three weeks I was there. Maybe it was driving on the wrong side of the road for the first time in my life. Anyway, here’s a photo of the lovely Catherine from Melbourne to perk up your Wednesday.

Note: So she isn’t exactly wearing a bikini, are you complaining?

Couldn’t resist posting this lovely lady, sitting on a glass staircase near a pool. She looks Brazilian, don’t you think?

This year the ‘shocking and immoral’ bikini reaches its 60th birthday–though the Wikipedia entry says they were first seen at least a year earlier and possibly even in ancient Roman art. Created in the aftermath of World War II by a French automobile engineer, the manufacturer of these outrageous swimsuits had to hire strippers because mainstream models refused to be photographed wearing them!

Wikimedia Commons has a good selection of bikini photos too, including this rear view of a white string bikini:
